Privacy

Politare shows who holds political office and how public statistics moved during their time in office. It has no accounts, no sign-in, no forms and no comments, and it does not sell or share data about visitors. This page lists everything that does happen when you use the site.

What Politare itself stores

Two settings, in your browser only. When you pick a chart window (5, 10, 20 years or all) the choice is saved in your browser's local storage under the key politare.range, and when you colour the map by party or by group (the European Union's parliamentary groups, India's alliances) under politare.colorBy, so the next visit opens the same way. They never leave your device, and clearing your browser's site data removes them. Politare sets no cookies of its own.

Your country, for the borders

Where borders are disputed (Kashmir, Crimea, Cyprus, for example), the map draws them the way Google Maps does: as maps made in India, China, Argentina, Russia or Ukraine draw their own country's claims for readers there, and as dashed lines on the ground for everyone else. To know which, the page asks politare.com for the country Cloudflare reads from your connection, at /viewer.json; the answer is a two-letter country code, used in your browser to draw the map and then forgotten. Politare does not log it, store it or link it to anything else.

Analytics

Visits are counted with Cloudflare Web Analytics, a small script the page loads from Cloudflare (static.cloudflareinsights.com), which is built to work without cookies, without fingerprinting and without tracking you across sites. It records which pages were viewed, the referring site, the country, the browser and device type, and how fast the page loaded. It does not store your IP address or any identifier that could single you out, and Politare sees only aggregate counts. Cloudflare's handling of this data is described in its privacy policy.

Hosting

The site is a set of static files served by Cloudflare. Like any web server, Cloudflare processes each request, including your IP address, to deliver the page and to protect the site from abuse. Politare does not receive or keep those server logs. Everything the page needs, including its typefaces, is served from politare.com; no other company's servers are contacted.

Advertising

Politare does not show advertising today. When it does, ads will be served by Google AdSense, and this section will be updated on the day they start. In that case third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of the advertising cookie lets it and its partners show ads based on your browsing. You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google's ads settings or at www.aboutads.info. Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland will be asked for consent before any advertising cookie is set.

Information about office-holders

The site publishes information about people holding public office in the United States and in the European Union: their name, party, the dates they took and will leave office, and a portrait where Wikimedia Commons has one under a free licence (each is credited on the photo credits page and served from politare.com, not from Wikimedia). All of it comes from public sources, Wikidata and official records, and is published because there is a public interest in knowing who governs; a person's party is shown because they hold or held office under it. The statistics shown next to it are public series from the agencies named under each chart. Politare describes what happened during a tenure; it does not claim the office-holder caused it.

If you are shown on the site and something is wrong, out of date or disputed, write to the address below: it will be corrected, updated or marked as disputed, with an answer within a month. The same address takes objections to being shown at all, which are weighed against the public interest in the office you hold.

Children

The site is not aimed at children, and it collects no personal data from anyone.

Changes

When this page changes, the date at the top moves and the change is described here. 23 September 2026: portraits of office-holders added, self-hosted, with a credits page; the European Union added as a second region, with the office-holders section above extended to say so and to spell out how to ask for a correction. Adding advertising will be the next change.
