Politare

Electoral democracy during each office-holder's tenure, worldwide

41 offices, from presidents to mayors, in 40 countries, ranked against one another by how the electoral democracy changed from each office-holder's first day in office, each on its own country's figures. Politare shows what happened during a tenure; it does not claim the office-holder caused it.

Showing 10 of 195 tenures.

Sorted by total, highest first. Rows measure V-Dem's electoral democracy index, 0 to 1 shown as 0 to 100, the same country experts' method everywhere; yearly; each place is read from its own statistics office's series (the row's chart names it), so a change is set against the place's own first day, never against another country's level. Every row is indexed to the last month, quarter or count complete before the first day in office ("from" marks a start that had to move because that period had no data, or because the period cut it). Changes are differences in points; "per year" divides them by the years in office. Tenures with under 12 months, or under three observations, are left out. Data as of Sep 2026.
